Hypnosis & Self-Hypnosis

What is Hypnosis & Self-Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness different from sleep and wakefulness. It is characterized by focused attention to a particular facet of mental activity with decreased peripheral awareness. In everyday life we, at times, become absorbed inwardly, in thought, remembrance, fantasy or while reading a story or watching a movie; all these are examples of spontaneous hypnosis. Physically, it is a state of relaxation and decreased movements. It is a calm and quiet, pleasant state of mind wherein we use more of our own potential and in which imaginations and ideas can have a greater impact on our mind and body. Hypnosis is a structured, guided and goal-oriented meditation.

With Self-hypnosis, you can experience all the benefits of the hypnotic state without needing anyone else to be present. You can practice it wherever and whenever you want, making it a convenient and fast way to get what you need.

How does Self-Hypnosis work?

Our thoughts & feelings originate from our subconscious, so it makes sense to reprogram our subconscious to our advantage. Our subconscious is more responsive during hypnosis and it can accept new suggestions and the content of the hypnotic suggestions will help reprogram the subconscious.

Is Self-Hypnosis safe?

Yes — it is safe for nearly everyone, as long as it is done with the help of a licensed clinical hypnotherapist. In the case of Samatvam courses, all hypnosis sessions are facilitated by Dr. Palan, qualified & renowned hypnotherapist with 30+ years of hypnosis clinical experience and research.

Please never take Samatvam courses or practice Self-Hypnosis in case of acute psychosis, schizophrenia, delusions or severe depression with suicidal thoughts. In such cases, you should consult a psychiatrist.

Can I lose control over myself during Hypnosis?

No. Many people fear that Hypnosis is a loss of control. Scientifically, it turns out that it actually increases control over your mind and body. It’s a structured, guided and goal-oriented meditation, which can be also be practiced by oneself through Self-Hypnosis. You will definitely not stay under hypnosis forever. You will certainly wake up by yourself at some point.

How can Self-Hypnosis help me?

Self-hypnosis has various applications. It not only helps with clinical conditions (psychosomatic disorders, habit disorders, addiction, pain management & certain neurotic conditions), but also empowers you to become the person you want to be. Hypnosis is not a replacement but an adjuvant for management of specific disorders along with the primary treatment or therapy. It enables faster healing and makes other therapies and treatments more effective. However, in many cases, over a period of time, dependency of medicines can be minimized, under the guidance of your doctor.

Is everyone hypnotizable?

More than 90% of the population is hypnotizable to varying degrees. The ability to undergo hypnosis is a quality of one’s personality and not a weakness. As it is with any other capability, everyone cannot attain the same degree of hypnosis. Individuals with strong will-power and better imaginative involvement can reach a deeper level of hypnosis easily.

That being said, don't try too hard to achieve a deeper state of trance. It is not our primary goal to achieve a deep hypnotic state. You can use whatever level of trance you are naturally experiencing for your benefit. Once you start working regularly, the depth of trance will improve automatically over a period of time.

How do I achieve fast results with Self-Hypnosis?

All our courses are experiential in nature. Our strong theoretical foundation & real-life examples enhance the impact of the self-hypnosis sessions & other practical techniques. But, Self-Hypnosis is not magic. You cannot expect dramatic results without any effort on your part. Self-Hypnosis makes the change easier and faster, but only in combination with your conscious deliberate efforts, outside the trance work.

The golden rule is: the more often and the more regularly you practice Self-Hypnosis and other techniques as per the recommended schedule, the better.

Can I practice Hypnosis on somebody after taking this course?

No. This course doesn’t qualify you to start practicing hypnotherapy on others. This is a course to learn Self-Hypnosis.
